China's maritime industry has a scale of 142 million deadweight tons, ranking fourth in the world

Vice Minister of Transport He Jianzhong revealed that there are currently more than 240 maritime enterprises in China, and the total capacity of the maritime fleet is 142 million deadweight tons. This scale accounts for approximately 8%of the world's total shipping capacity, and we rank fourth.Large shipping companies in China, such as COSCO and CNOOC,have basically formed a global marketing network with initial scale. The main international shipping routes for containers cover major ports around the world.By the end of 2013,the cargo throughput of ports in China reached 11.8 billion tons, and the container throughput also reached 176 million TEUs.At present, there are 30 coastal ports in China with a throughput of 100 million tons, and 22 with a container throughput exceeding one million standard containers.Currently, among the top 10 ports and container throughput in the world,China has 8 and 7 respectively. Therefore, overall, the current situation of China's maritime industry is relatively large in scale, but its strength is not strong.
However, compared with developed countries, there are three gaps:firstly,China's maritime service industry has been in a long-term deficit in service trade, especially the competitiveness of the high-end service industry is relatively weak compared to developed countries; The second reason is that the fleet size of the Five Star Red Flag is relatively small.Among the 142 million deadweight tons, some are actually five-star red flag ships and some are Chinese convenience flag ships. The overall scale of the five-star red flag fleet is relatively small, and the capacity structure, specialized fleet, and technical level need to be optimized and improved;Thirdly, the overall share of China's shipping enterprises in carrying import and export cargo volume is relatively low, currently accounting for 1/4 of the total import and export cargo volume. The overall ability to ensure the safe operation of China's economy is still insufficient.
